The Youth Media Literacy Declaration has been developed within the framework of the MEDIActive Youth Network, 2026.

The Declaration responds to the growing need to strengthen media literacy and critical thinking among young people in today’s complex digital environment. In a time of misinformation, manipulation, hate speech, AI-generated content and rapidly changing media technologies, young people need the skills and support to critically assess information, participate responsibly in digital spaces and contribute to democratic public life.

The Declaration highlights five key principles: media literacy and critical thinking as key competences, empowerment of young people, responsible use of digital technologies, cooperation across sectors, and the building of more resilient democratic societies.

We invite youth and civil society organisations, educational and training institutions, media actors and other relevant stakeholders across Europe to read the Declaration and endorse it. By supporting the Declaration, organisations reaffirm their commitment to strengthening youth media literacy, critical thinking and responsible digital participation.
